July 11, 2011

GOOD MORNING!!!

I am so excited to be writing you this email! This past week brought lots of learning experiences. I thought I had an idea of where to begin but I go blank every time- even though I have my planner right in front of me. Let me start with Tuesday. after I emailed you all. What an adventure this day turned out to be. We lost our cell phone that morning. . . We made a phone call on it and then 2 seconds later it was gone. I think our car ate it. . it is in there somewhere we just need to locate the black hole. Looking for the phone caused us to be super late for district meeting, All the Elders are so patient and nice that they were only worried for our safety- especially since we weren't answering our phone. We had a member come get us after to come with us to 5 lessons that we had planned for that day. The first lesson wasn't home- that happens A LOT. So we used advantage of that time and had the member drive us to the Mission office to get a new phone. That took a long time- we hate driving that much in a car because it makes us so tired!! Anyways- we get a new phone and head back to our next lesson with Lex! It was so good! He has been through a lot since he was a kid. He is very strong willed and loves everything that we teach him and knows how to listen to the spirit. Then we taught a guy named Francisco- I think he was drunk the whole lesson- either that or high. who knows. He accepted a baptism date but we haven't been able to meet with him recently, I don't know how serious that lesson was for him- give or take- his favorite words he said like every five words! He is from Porto Rico and is still working on his English. lol
The following day we did a lot of finding! Like all day we tracked and contacted people while biking! We love doing this because we meet so many cool students! Thursday (July 7) Was a busy day. We taught Manuel- our "eternigator" (investigator of eternity)  the spirit is always there when we teach him, but he doesn't want to let himself feel it. He knows it is true but is looking for a more powerful answer. We pray a lot for Manuel. M&M's this night as awesome. We taught the lesson on Prayer. We had two gators come. Mark, and Manuel. Mark is a new one we are teaching. He is super shy and quite but loves learning new things and is getting baptized on July 31. He loves the Book of Mormon from what we know, we are working on getting him to talk more.
Friday was  out of this world. Here is the story!!! Ready, we taught Lex again. Lex is so AMAZING!!!!! He is set to be baptized this Sunday, July 17 and is so excited. He is so prepared! We taught him, Follow the Prophet and the Word of Wisdom. After teaching them this is what happened . . .
Me "Lex- will you live the word of wisdom starting today and for the rest of your life?"
Lex- pushes himself up from the table- walks over to his fridge- gets out a half full bottle of white wine- and DUMPS is all down the drain!!! He sets down the empty bottle- goes back to the fridge- gets out a full bottle of red wine and DUMPS it all down the drain!!!!!! Sits back down, looks at me
"Sister Durr, does that answer your question?"
Me "We will take that as a yes!"
It was INCREDIBLE!! Sister Christensen and I could not contain our happiness while he was in motion- I wish you could have seen all of our faces when he sat back down! It was amazing!
We then went on a Temple Tour! Manuel and Mark came along with us with 4 awesome members. It rained most of this past week, well all of Thursday- with a high chance of it raining all day Friday too. I was not going to have it rain out this temple tour. All day long I had a prayer in my heart to Heavenly Father that we would bless us with holding the rain. It rain a little during the day, but once it came to go to the temple, we prayed as a companionship even harder! I knew it wasn't going to rain and I had enough Faith to back it up. President Woo, of the mission presidency gave the tour. I gave the opening prayer, once again using all my faith to ask Heavenly Father to hold off on the rain. The tour started and the cloud cleared! Not only was it my faith that helped but every one's faith that was there! It didn't rain the whole time!!! But we did get all the rain yesterday! haha
So Thursday and Friday was our blessed days. . . Saturday was a rough day! ALL our lesson cancelled on us. . . all four of them! It was saddening. not only that but our solid gator Matthew, the one who was to get baptized this Sunday, July 17 dropped us! He went home for the weekend to celebrate his birthday and propose to his gf. We talked to him and we think he broke all the commitments we extended and feels awful about it all, therefore resulting in not wanting to see us anymore. Needless to say We are still going to go see him tomorrow and talk to him and try to help him see that people make mistakes and the Atonement is real and can help. Pray for us.
Which brings me to my NEWS!! Transfer calls were this weekend. Here is what went down. President changed everything. We no longer get transfer calls on Saturday morning. We get transfer emails on Monday. Unless you will be called to leadership or training you will get a phone call Sunday night. Well MY CALL CAME THIS MORNING.
I will be training a NEW SISTER here in my current area!! Rumor has it that I will be TRAINING TWO. . but President didn't tell me anything about that over the phone, Sister Christensen is being transferred to a new area. I am excited and scared all at the same time. You will all know the 411 next week, but until then send me your prayers.
"I can do all things in Christ who strengthens me"
I trust the Lord. I do not fear. I love you all so much and think about you often! I am so VERY HAPPY and working so hard!! Keep doing all that you can to share the gospel with everyone around you. Until next week I send you my Love!
