Once upon a time. . there was a sister missionary serving in Florida. She has been serving in her first area for three months now and is loving all of it, even the heart ache, tears, sweat and constant roller coaster ride of helping investigators, people in the ward and her companion get through and be happy. She is learning that she can't worry about herself but only those around her. She is learning that for her to really be happy her companion needs to be happy, therefore she rarely checks her own emotions.
Losing myself in the work is the best words that come into my mind that best describes the week.
First: DAD I hope you had a HAPPY FATHER'S day! I let myself think of you all day. My comp and I called our mission president in place of wishing our real fathers one over the phone. lol I am happy to hear that you got the tie I sent and that you wore it. I knew you would! lol How I love you!
This week was SO GOOD! My favorite part is seeing and feeling the Lord work through us in helping His children. One experience at the beginning of the week. During my personal prayer at the end of my personal study I kept getting a thought about an investigator that we were teaching that night at the church before F.H.E. Those of you might remember me mentioning Kevin- from Africa- we have been teaching since March, but has come to church because he has work on Sundays. . anyways we were teaching him at the church, and during my prayer I kept getting the thought- take him on a tour of the church- so him the chapel- show him the baptism font- show him where class is- show him the pictures on the wall and talk about them. . during companion study I shared these thoughts with Sister Christensen. We both agreed that this is what we needed to do. So we planned the lesson and made all the arrangements that were needed. We get there at 6:00 and start the lesson. We started in the chapel- moved to the classroom- then into where the baptism font is- then ended in the chapel. During this AMAZING lesson- talking about the spirit of church and why it is so important to attend- especially because it is a place where we receive peace and answers to prayers- he told us that he had received an answer to this prayer to feel if this is the right church! The spirit was AMAZING!!! He felt different and knows that he needs to try harder to get work off to come to church. One step at a time. :-) we were so happy. He even got involved in the FHE activity when that started. A good way to start the week off right!
Tuesday we has a lot of lesson's planned but some fell through- good backup plans. One lesson we did teach was to an inactive kid- who is very bitter towards his dad- which resulted in not going to church anymore (his parents divorced when he was in high school) That lesson was incredible I really felt the Love that Heavenly Father has for him. We invited him to church, and boldly with love told him that now is the time to come back.
Exchanges were so good!! I left my area for the first time since being here. I love being able to strengthen another area. It was new and different to knock doors and not have a student answer. Older people are not scary but it was just something new and out of my comfort zone. . which is a good thing! The sister and I found two potentials. One on which I learned last night accepted a baptism date :-) and another was the coolest couple ever!!! I hope that they start teaching them! I learned so much during the exchange. One of the things was my comp has a rough time without me. . . eek! P.S. I have never been feed so much in my life! So many people offer to feed you in the family areas!
Staurday was another cool day. Here you go! We had a lesson lined up with a kid named Kenny. We go back on Saturday and Kenny isn't home and learned that he had left the house 20 min before we got there. His roommate John, was so mad at him for standing us up. We kindly thanked John- talked to him a little- gave him a pass-a-long card and left. We didn't go very far- we stopped and called Kenny to see what was up and where he was (when we contacted him he was so excited to get a B.O.M.) While we were trying to get a hold of him John came back outside and also tried to call Kenny. We learned that Kenny was not coming back for the lesson. at that time John goes "I would like to know what you ladies are teaching- do you have time to come and tell me?" OF COURSE WE HAVE TIME!!!! We taught him the Restoration. He took it all in! and the whole time would say "wow that is deep" or "that is dope" hahaha we gave him the Book of Mormon- testified and invited him to read and find out on which he said "I don't need to read this book, I know it is true just by how you speak about it. I know that Joseph Smith is prophet with how you talk about him. I feel that what you say is good and true!" WHAT!!! We still told him that he needs to read and pray. We are going back this week and plan to invite him to be baptized. He is a cool kid! Yet another cool experience, We would not have meet John if it were for Kenny standing was up!
Yesterday at church Bishop came up to us and was like "Sister's do you need a place to go and call your dad's?" hahahaha If you are giving up permission then YES! HAHAHA it was so funny. We enjoyed the laughs!
I love you all so much! I hope you all had a great father's day- Wesley, Bradley- Zach- Tau- Kyle to be and yes. . you too Bryce! lol
XOXOXOX- Share the gospel with those around you because they might think it is dope!
