Once again another week has come and gone. Time is flying by. And I am enjoying every moment-every heartache, every smile, every tear, every triumph, every tender mercy from the Lord. He is blessing us so much here in Lake Mary. I don’t even know how to express it all in words.
Starting with Yesterday- Sunday. AMAZING DAY!!! There are so many things that happen around us that can easily be seen as negative. Things that make you question yourself. But as we strive to push those aside the Lord helps you to see the positive of every single situation. For example, planning for so many people to come to church but only getting a few there. Instead of focusing on who didn't come, focus on who did come and then go find out why the others didn't come. That is what I am learning. There are always reasons to be happy at church! For we are renewing our promises with GOD! How wonderful!!
We picked up a family of five this past week. We have been seeing the Husband, Bernard more. His three kids are cool (We are learning how to teach kids and parents at the same time) Bernard is a sponge; he is taking everything in and was so excited to share everything with his wife. He was even so excited to come to church. We even arranged a ride. We got a call Saturday night from his wife Latasha, who said that they would not be able to make it. We hadn't been able to meet with her so we knew why they weren't able to come. We went over there after church and meet with Latasha, and shared with her that we do indeed worship the same God, and the same Jesus Christ. We see them tomorrow. The whole time we were talking with Latasha, Bernard was like "See, I told you so!" This family is prepared, so we hope that the spirit will teach them, through us, how to make and keep promises with our Father in Heaven. We meet them at a bus stop last week. I love all the different places we meet people!!
We have been teaching Carmen and her son Juan. (I was so excited to read your email Kevin . . . we are both teaching a Carmen :-) legit!) Carmen will too be baptized on Feb 5, 2012. She is so excited for it. She came to church with her son and hung on every word that was spoken! She can't wait to come next week. And the ward LOVES her! Juan on the other hand is a teenager and doesn't know what he wants but he is in full support of his mom and will go with her anywhere. It will be only a matter of time that he too will want to be baptized. We love Carmen and Juan!
The baptisms that were planned for this weekend (Jan 29) have been pushed back. Due to them not coming to church. We are teaching Jerry again. He is slowly progressing. Also this week we taught a woman. Very interesting. She is a recovering drug addict and wants a new life! She lives out of our area and so we gave her over the some other Elders.
This work is amazing. I have so much to be thankful for! Last week was so crazy busy, and this week is just the same. You know me I love those kind of days. We are working so hard! Sunday President and Sister Hall spoke in our sacrament meeting. I love these two people with all my heart. I learned so much from them. One thing was that we need to share our testimony with everyone around us! We have something unique and if it makes you happy you know that it is going to make someone else happy as well. So get out there and share what you know to be true. If you think you don’t have a testimony, read your scriptures pray and serve those you are always around and your testimony will grow! DO IT!
P.S. thank you for those who watched the YouTube video (Kameron, Katie Danner) "Missionary work and the Atonement" and reported back to me. Mom I know the computer is slow. Who else watched it??
I love you all so much and I am so grateful to be on a mission! This is truly the Lord's work and it will be done His way, which means that no one can mess it up or stop it from flooding the earth! I know that this is true and I know that Jesus is the Christ and He LIVES! Heavenly Father is REAL and He LOVES us! The Holy Ghost speaks and testifies to our hearts the TRUTH of all things! Joseph Smith is the Prophet called by God to restore this truth for us to have in our lives today! Go out and share what you know! And Smile!
I love you so much!!!! Have a GREAT, WONDERFUL, FANTASTIC, SPIRIT FILLED WEEK!
All My Love!
Sister Shannon Durr
